From Sketchbook to Changing Mat: Designing Our Collection with Mabel & Fox
I was so honoured to be invited to create a changing mat design for Mabel & Fox! š¤
The lovely owner, Leanne, had fallen in love with my Butterfly Bunnies illustration and was keen to develop something with a similar whimsical feel for their changing mat collection.
Together, we settled on these sweet little mice, with delicate heart details scattered throughout. We really wanted the characters to take centre stage, keeping the design simple, playful and full of charm. The result was Butterfly Mice, a design that feels unmistakably Lion & The Pear while sitting beautifully within the Mabel & Fox collection.
Designing for Everyday Life
One of the loveliest things about collaborations like this is seeing my illustrations come to life beyond the page and become part of the little everyday moments that make up family life.
The finished design was brought to life across Mabel & Fox's core range of beautiful, high-quality changing mats, available in a variety of styles and sizes. From their classic changing mats and beautifully shaped wedge designs to basket liners and handy travel mats, there's something to suit every changing space, whether at home or on the go.

Styling a Changing Area
I have always loved the idea that even the most practical corners of a nursery can feel thoughtful, beautiful and full of personality.
The Butterfly Mice design was created with this in mind, with a soft, understated palette and playful characters that can sit comfortably alongside a whole range of nursery styles.
Here are a few little ideas for creating a calm, characterful changing corner:
Bring the artwork onto the walls. Pair your changing mat with the matching Butterfly Mice art print to create a lovely connection between the practical pieces and the artwork in your nursery.
